Neversink Retreat
Upstate, New York | 2021 | 1750 SF | Schematic Design
Neversink Retreat is designed for a couple as a vacation house in the rolling hills of Update New York. The land slopes away towards the dense forest and distant mountains. The design of the house is inspired by the natural layers of the fractured shale found throughout the site. The roof is fragmented to create clerestory between each plane to allow more natural light into the space. The main living space is located in the center of the house with two sets of bedrooms at each end of the wing. The primary bedrooms are connected through a shared bathroom. The exterior material includes standing seam metal panels and wood and batten sidings.
